In 1982, Etude was founded on a winemaking philosophy that begins in the vineyard long before the harvest and, that superior grape growing diminishes the need for intervention by the winemaker, resulting in authentic varietal expression.
Winemaker Jon Priest strongly believes and lives out the Etude philosophy. This has allowed for the continual cultivation of the highest quality wines, reflective of the profound influences of the land and the season, as well as the hand of its steward; hence, the concept of winegrowing.
Etude specializes in a selection of white and two classic red varietals- Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon. Though modeled on the best from Burgundy and Bordeaux, these wines speak clearly of their contemporary California origins, combining rich, ripe fruit with an elegant structure and opulent mouthfeel.
Etude’s Estate Pinot Noirs, including a highly esteemed bottling made from rare heirloom selections and two single-vineyard offerings, are vinified from grapes grown on the Etude Estate Vineyards in the cool Carneros region. Fruit for the winery’s Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from the warmer, northern half of the Napa Valley.
