Vineyard Notes: 2010 was a very cool year, making it ideal for producing wines of great aromatics and freshness. Our estate Chardonnay vineyards in Carneros have deep, well-drained loamy soils, perfect for grape growing. Cooler temperatures provide for a long and even growing season, allowing the fruit to fully ripen in harmony with the vines’ physiological development. The Etude Chardonnay is sourced exclusively from our Grace Benoist Estate vineyard in Carneros. The Grace Benoist Estate vineyard is farmed to Etude’s exacting standards, using ecologically sound viticultural practices. We grow and ultimately pick focusing on intensity of flavor, strong varietal delineation and ideal natural balance.
Winemaker Notes: After a gentle pressing, a portion of the juice is transferred to small stainless steel barrels and the remaining juice is transferred to neutral French oak barrels for fermentation and sur lie aging. The wine is allowed to mature undisturbed for ten months before bottling. This wine does not go under malolactic fermentation. The philosophy behind our Chardonnay is to showcase the beauty of the Chardonnay grape unencumbered by winemaking artifact and manipulation.
